Academy Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just do 1 or 2 days of Longarm Academy 2020?

Our Longarm Academy is our Premier training event and is a fully-immersive multi-day event. We find that this provides the optimum environment for learning and interaction. Pinhole Quilting runs other training events during the year that are bookable on a daily basis.

How can I guarantee getting a place at Academy?

Our first Academy in 2018 was fully subscribed and sold out very quickly. Although the 2020 event is much bigger, we have lots of new owners and the level of interest has been very high. We think that the only fair way to allocate spaces is to prioritise existing Handi Quilter owners on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have received an email that states that you are a Qualified Handi Quilter Owner you are entitled to try to book a place. Only one place can be booked per person. You can check or re-subscribe to the list on this link. Priority will be given to Handi Quilter owners so you need to be on the Pinhole Quilting Customers or Handi Quilter Owners list.

What level do I have to be to attend Academy?

We carefully select top international teachers who are able to cater for all levels of ability within each class. This is also one of the reasons we restrict class sizes. The Optional Class program may also allow you to choose classes most suitable to you. We design the Academy programme so that beginners and experts can be catered for.

Will I be able to use the same machine that I own?

We will have all machines in the Handi Quilter range at Academy, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to use the same type of machine. For hands-on sessions, wherever possible we will try to match the machine you use to the one that you own.

Can I bring my own machine to use at Academy?

All the machines at the Longarm Academy 2020 will be provided by Pinhole Quilting. There is limited time for set-up and break-down with a bigger event and each machine will be used by multiple delegates

Do I have to stay at the Hogarths Accommodation?

Many delegates will choose to do so, as it adds to the collegiate nature of the event and reduces travel time, so Pinhole Quilting has reserved all available rooms at Hogarths Hotel. We have negotiated good rates and the accommodation and food are well-reviewed. Hogarths cater for a wide range of dietary requirements. However, if you prefer to stay elsewhere that is entirely your choice.

How do I reserve the accommodation package at Hogarths?

This will be done through Pinhole Quilting as an optional part of the Booking process, again on a first-come, first-served basis. You can choose to share a room with another delegate or bring your significant other, resulting in a cost saving on the per person price. The cost of accommodation is £450 for a single room on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis from check in on Monday 27th April 2020 through to checkout on Friday 1st May 2020. The last night is the Gala night and dinner is included within the delegate rate for Academy. The cost of accommodation on a two people sharing a room basis is £315 per person.

Can I stay for Dinner at Hogarths if I do not book their accommodation?

If you wish or need to stay elsewhere or live locally there is an option to just pay for the Dinners in the evening. The cost is £105 for the three dinners on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in our private dining room. Hogarths has very good quality food and this is for a three course reduced choice menu which you can select each day. The Gala Dinner is already included in the cost of the Academy package.

I am not a Handi Quilter owner – can I attend your Academy?

If there are still places available, we will open bookings to non-owners at a later date. One of the key reasons customers choose to purchase a Handi Quilter machine from Pinhole Quilting is for the unrivalled support and education opportunities provided. It is only right that we reward that loyalty when it comes to our premier training event.

How many spaces are available at Academy?

Due to space constraints at the venue, places are limited as follows: Sitdown Programme: 15 spaces; Standup Programme: 15 spaces; Pro Stitcher Programme: 20 spaces. Each person can only book one place.

I am a standup user. How many people will there be using each machine in the hands-on sessions?

The majority of sessions will be one user per machine for standup and sitdown quilters, which is why the number of places is limited to 15. The Pro Stitcher hands on session will be either two or one person per machine. Each Pro Stitcher user will have the opportunity to use the machines for a hands on session for a similar amount of time.

Do I have any option on the ‘core classes’?

The core classes are mandatory for each Programme (Sitdown, Standup or Pro Stitcher), but you are free to choose between the optional classes available on the timetable. You will be given preference for the optional classes on the Programme that you have selected, with the exception of the Thursday afternoon sessions where it will be open. Within the optional classes process you will be able to indicate your first or second choice of classes.

What happens next?

We will be sending out full details of the timetable and further information by 15th September 2019 so that you have all the information you need before the booking date.

Will I be emailed further information?

If you have received an email from us regarding Academy and it says you are a "Qualified Handi Quilter Owner" (at the bottom it will also say either Pinhole Quilting Customers or Handi Quilter Owners list) then you will receive our email on how to book by 15th September. However, if you have unsubscribed from the list or if you have purchased your machine secondhand and are not registered with us, you won't receive the booking email so please click here to subscribe to either the Pinhole Quilting Customers or Handi Quilter Owners lists. You will need to provide details of the machine you have. If you aren't sure and you are a Handi Quilter owner please email us at quilt@pinholequilting.co.uk asap.

What is the timetable? How long is each session?

A summary timetable can be downloaded as a pdf. TIMETABLE PDF Pro Stitcher Programme Standup Programme Sitdown Programme Each of the morning and afternoon sessions will have scheduled breaks for tea, coffee and drinks.
